Races

Stock races are the basic character types players build upon to make their characters.
Racial traits do not contribute to a character's Fae score. These traits are a natural ability that is possessed by members of the character's race. Traits not listed as racial traits may change the character's Fae Score normally. Also, any attribute which exceeds the character's racial maximum increase his or her Fae Score.
As always, if you don't find a race to suit you, sit down with your Gamemaster and work out a new one to play. The section at the end of this chapter has information about creating new races.

Race List

The Stock Races will be listed in the following format:

Human Description: Humans are a race that developed in the domain of Manhaven, a chunk of rock far from the Fae. As a result of this lack of fae, they are fairly uniform (and boring) in attributes and traits. However, humans thrive in nearly any conditions found in the Domains. If they are poorly suited to a climate, they simply create tools that allow them to survive in it. One example of this is an invention called clothes to moderate their temperature, protect their frail bodies, and improve their appearance all at the same time.

Creating New Races

Creating a new race is very similar to character creation. I suggest you stick with pregenerated races until you have a firm grasp of the game. Follow these steps to design a new race:

Step 1: Concept

Decide what you want from the race. Make sure it is something that will enrich play and isn't just an excuse to get lots of bonuses. If you get too power hungry, the race will end up with very low attribute modifiers.

Step 2: Purchase Racial Traits and Attribute Modifiers

When designing a race, you have 200 creation points to spend for traits and attribute modifiers. Keep in mind that these are traits that will be common to almost all members of this race. If you want a trait that doesn't fit the racial concept, you can always make a character of this race that has the desired trait. Characters are individuals, races can be an entire civilization.

Step 3: Determine Derived Values

The race's Fae score is calculated by totaling all the cost or bonus for all the Fae Traits the race has and dividing the result by 10 and then round up. Racial traits are passed down through the generations and require less fae because the race's natural form has changed to incorporate the trait.
The Run Multiplier depends on the body build of the race as well as the number of legs the race has. A squat race is very dense with short legs. Squat races usually have a Stamina modifier of 40 or more and get a run multiplier of 2. Lean races are very tall, thin, and frail looking. Lean races have a stamina modifier less than 10 and get a run multiplier of 4. Races of average build get a run multiplier of 3.
Add .5 to the run multiplier for each leg the race has. A biped adds 1 to the run multiplier and a quadruped would get +2. A five legged squat race would have a run multiplier of 4.5 (slightly faster than a typical human). Note that races with one leg really do not run, they just hop rather quickly and a race with no legs at all just crawls or slithers very fast.

Step 4: Write the Description

Write down a description of the race. Make sure to include what their society is like and which Domain the originated in. Most importantly give a physical description of the typical member of the race.
