Equipment
Equipment is all the tools, supplies, and little doodads your character will tend to accumulate. Good equipment is vital to a character's survival.
Money and Barter
The Fae Domains are an economic nightmare. What is considered valuable in one domain can be completely useless in another, so exchange rates are almost nonexistent. Ogres measure value by how tasty or filling something is, while the pixies use flowers for trade. Manhaven is the only Domain with a consistent monetary system. As a result Mancoin can often be used to purchase goods in other Domains. Carrying gold is a pretty safe bet, but even the value of gold can drop in a particular Domain.
Mancoin is divided into three types of coins. The Gold Mancoin is the most valuable. The Silver Mancoin is larger but less valuable. Last is the Copper Mancoin. This coin is about two inches in diameter and of less value than the others. The conversion rates follow:
1 Silver Mancoin = 10 Copper Mancoins
1 Gold Mancoin = 10 Silver Mancoins = 100 Copper Mancoins
Due to the difficulties of dealing with money, travelers in the Fae Domains often barter for goods. Barter is the exchange of services or goods without money. Usually one party will give a certain amount of work in exchange for supplies from the other party.
Equipment Damage
Items can get damaged in a number of ways. When an item takes damaged, subtract the item's DR from the damage, then subtract the remaining damage from the items DR. If the DR is less than 0, the item is broken. DR can only be restored by a craftsman repairing the item.
Example: Brutus is fumbling in the dark for a flask of oil to fill his extinguished lantern. He drops it on a rock for damage of 10 (falling 1 yard). The DR of a glass flask is 5 so the final damage is 5 (10 - 5). When the damage is applied, the new DR is 0 so the flask shatters and spills oil over the floor and Brutus' boots. He better be careful lighting that lantern! |
Equipment Properties
- Weight: The item's weight is how heavy it is. For clothing and armor, the weight assumes the character is of average human size (50). To calculate the weight for unusual sized persons, multiply the weight by the character's Size and divide the result by 50.
- Concealability: This number determines how hard the item is to spot if the owner is trying to hide it on his person. The character must have somewhere to hide the item. It can be very hard to hide a dagger while wearing only a string bikini.
- Base Damage: This characteristic is used only for weapons. It is how much damage the weapon is capable of inflicting.
- Weapon Type: If the item is used as a weapon, this will tell you which skill to use.
- Range: This number is used to calculate the difficulty of a shot based on range.
- Maximum Range: This is the maximum distance a missile may fire. Trying to hit someone beyond this distance always results in failure.
- Defense Rating: This determines how resistant the item is to damage and how much it can protect the character.
- Parry Modifier: When parrying with the weapon apply this modifier.
- Value: This is the relative value of the item measured in Gold Mancoin. As discussed in Money and Barter above, the value may be different depending on which Domain you are currently in. When Creating a character, pay this many creation points to buy the item.
- Description: This is a brief description of the item.
Some items may be of low quality. Such items will have ratings lower than those listed. Only superior quality items should have the maximum ratings listed. During character creation, the character will always get an item with the listed ratings.
Alternate Materials
All metal items in the equipment lists are assumed to be made of steel unless noted otherwise. However, many Domains may not no how to smelt steel or even work metal. Others have superior materials at their disposal. Using alternate materials to construct the metal items in the list have the following effects:
